Edtech Co. Unacademy Raises USD 50 Million in Series D Funding

It seems like R.N. Tagore?s hope of a land ?where knowledge is free? is no more a distant dream, with rising online learning platforms like Unacademy, which offer online classes for innumerable competitive spheres such as UPSE, SSC, CAT, and IIT JEE.
It was set up in 2015 by Gaurav Munjal, Roman Saini, and Hemesh Singh to democratize education at all levels.
The online educational company recently raised $50 million Series D funding from Sequoia India, Steadview Capital, Nexus Venture Partners, and Blume Ventures.
Sequoia Capital (India) Singapore, one of the investors, believes that Unacademy helps in empowering educators.

Educators can easily create high-quality educational lessons on the Educator App of the company. Learners can access the lessons uploaded via the Learning App.
The rapidly growing platform has around 10,000 registered educators and 13 million learners currently.
At the IAMAI 12th India Digital Summit, the firm won the Digital Start-Up of the Year award.
Now it has more than 400 top educators from across the country providing live classes to around 50,000 subscribers on its new paid subscription option, Unacademy Plus.
Interactive classes, live test series and doubt-clearing sessions with educators help enhance learning on the platform.
Students can choose from over 600 live classes on the portal each day.
Wifistudy, an online learning portal acquired by Unacademy in October 2018, is one of the most rapidly growing educational YouTube channels in the nation.
Unacademy has grown tremendously since its inception. Unacademy currently has the largest distribution for educational videos on its free learning platform and YouTube channel. Across these social platforms, lessons have more than 100 million monthly views.
As the name suggests, Unacademy is contrary to traditional academics. Challenging the conventional teaching and learning methods by paving a new path, Unacademy is reforming education for learners & educators.
